Amrita Rao (born on 17 June 1981) is an Indian actress and model.
Making her acting debut in 2002 with Ab Ke Baras She is best known for her performances in Ishq Vishk (2003), Masti and Main Hoon Na (both 2004), blockbuster-romance Vivah (2006), Jolly LLB and Satyagraha (both 2013) and also won the Stardust Best Actress Award for Shyam Benegal's Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008).
She has won and been nominated for several awards including two nominations of Filmfare in Best Debut and Best Supporting Actress categories. Painter M.F. Hussain's proclaimed muse and the winner of the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award for Best Actress in Vivah.
Amrita Rao is popular as Bollywood's quintessential "Girl next door". She was ranked among the Times Of India's 50 most beautiful faces in 2011.
Personal Life:
Amrita belongs to Konkani family originally from Karnataka, but raised in Mumbai, India. Her father owns an advertising agency in Mumbai. She studied in Sophia Collegeto pursue a degree in Psychology. Her younger sister, Preetika Rao, is a model and well-known film journalist.
Career:
While studying in Sophia College, Amrita auditioned for an advertisement for Fairever Face Cream. She filmed many commercials and did numerous photo shoots. Her appearance in Cadbury’s Perk Karwa Chaut ad and the Bru Coffee advertisement helped her receive offers from film directors in Bollywood. She also appeared in numerous music videos by artists such as Alisha Chinoy.
Even after becoming a well-known actress in Bollywood, she continues do model and walk ramps for designers, as a celebrity guest.
